World of Silence Report

Written in 2012, this damning report highlighted the need for training and support in care homes for staff. Without which, residents with hearing loss were at risk of isolation, loneliness and increased risk of ill-health.

Published in 2024 and working with the Office of National Statistics (ONS), this report looked at data from the most recent census covering the UK. The headline figures include;

  • 18 million people in the UK have some degree of hearing loss or Tinnitus
  • Over half the population aged 55 or more have hearing loss
  • 80% of people over the age of 70 will have hearing loss.
