Training courses

Course 1 - deaf awareness course for staff

90 minutes | E-Learning | 1 participant | £15

This option may be suitable for care services where it is difficult to release staff for a half-day course. The CPD accredited e-learning course can take between 60 and 90 minutes to complete. The course would be hosted on your own Learning Management System.

It consists of 8 modules which can be completed in one sitting or multiple sittings. The modules are:

• Ear wax
• Equipment
• Hearing aids

Fee: £15 per learner. Other pricing options available upon request. All delegates will receive 2 CPD points, a certificate and a pdf handbook.

Course 2 - deaf awareness training for managers

This option may be suitable for a home or organisation that is not yet able to make the commitment to a full project for a care organisation or an individual care service

In-person one-day training course for up to 15 participants
Managers attending this course will be equipped to develop appropriate policies and procedures for staff to follow, know how to comply with the AIS and provide an accessible care environment for people with hearing loss.

This one-day training delivered by our expert team covers:

· The experience of hearing loss
· Good communication
· Equipment

· Dementia and hearing loss
· Running activities for people with hearing loss
· The Accessible Information Standard
· Care plans
· Protocols
· Learning from experience (reflective practice)

Course 3 - deaf awareness training for staff

In-person one-day training course for up to 15 participants.

Staff attending this course will be equipped to understand and respond to people living with hearing loss and to advocate for them.

This one-day training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Running activities for people with hearing loss

Course 4 - Deaf awareness training for staff

Face-to-face 2-hour training for up to 15 participants.

Staff attending this CPD accredited course will be equipped to understand and respond to people living with hearing loss and to advocate for them.

This training delivered by our expert team covers:

Course 5 - Hearing aid skills for care staff

This one-day training is suitable for any staff supporting people with hearing aids. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Referral process for hearing aids
· Care planning
· Protocols
· How to support temporary changes in hearing levels (ear infections, ear wax etc)
· What is it like to wear a hearing aid (sounds like, actual wearing, rubbing, uncomfortable, soft, hard etc)
· Proper putting in and taking out of standard moulds and open-fit domes
· Replacing tubing, domes, wax guards and microphone covers
· Impact of excess ear wax and appropriate treatment

Fee: £900 - 15 staff per session @ £60 per (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate.

Course 6 - Hearing aid skills for care staff

This 3-hour training is suitable for any staff supporting people with hearing aids. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Proper putting in and taking out of standard moulds and open-fit domes
· Replacing tubing, domes, wax guards and microphone covers
· Impact of excess ear wax and appropriate treatment
· protocols

Fee: £500 - 15 staff per session @ £34 per (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate.

Course 7 - Policies and procedures for supporting people with hearing loss

This course is suitable for management and people in leadership positions. It is a 3-hour course, whether face-to-face or online seminar. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Appropriate legislation such as Accessible Information Standard and the Equality Act
· Pre-assessments
· Assessments
· Care plans
· Environments
· Equipment
· Dignity
· Safety
· Protocols
· Audiology, local and community based
· Ear wax removal
· Care plans – electronic care systems
· Flagging
· Alerts/reminders

Fee: £500 for the face-to-face course and £200 for the seminar. All attendees will receive a certificate and a pdf handbook.

Course 8 - Creating and maintaining environments that are deaf friendly

This course is suitable for people in property management, hospitality management and clinical management, team leaders and deputy managers. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Person centred care
· Dignity and respect
· Experience of hearing loss
· Accessibility relating to hearing loss
· Background noise/music/people
· Acoustic treatment
· Flooring/ceiling surfaces
· Soft furnishings
· Lighting
· Area size and use
· Assistive technology – loops/Auracast/speaker systems

Fee: £500 for the face-to-face course and £200 for the seminar. All attendees will receive a certificate.

Course 9 - Meeting the Accessible Information Standard

This one-hour online seminar is suitable for management and leadership within the care services. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· What is the standard and why was it created?
· What does it cover?
· How do care services abide by it?
· What needs to be in care plans
· Evidence for CQC – outstanding opportunity to demonstrate responsiveness (KLOE)
· Putting the person with hearing loss at the centre of the conversation
· How to support the conversation around communication
· How to record the issue and how to resolve it
· How to flag the issue with outside agencies
· How to monitor the ongoing support
· Examples of support offered to people with hearing loss

Fee: £200 per delegate. All attendees will receive a certificate.

Course 10 - Care planning for people with hearing loss

This 3-hour training, either via face-to-face or online seminar, is suitable for anyone who writes care plans. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Meeting the AIS
· BPS model
· Biological, not just about hearing aids, what other support is needed? Ensuring audiological support
· Psychological, unpacking the impact of hearing loss, the challenges these emotions place upon the person and how to meet those challenges
· Social, impact of hearing loss on the person's communication skills and support the challenges around access to activities and life in the home to ensure that person does not become isolated, leading to illbeing.
· Pre-assessment, what data is captured, asking the right questions
· Protocols around supporting people with hearing loss

Fee: £500 for the face-to-face course and £200 for the seminar. All attendees will receive a certificate.

Course 11 - Running Activities for people with hearing loss

This 3-hour training, via face-to-face or online seminar, is suitable for Activity management and anyone involved in organising and running activities in a care environment. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Experience of hearing loss
· Dignity, stigma and denial
· Common challenges experienced by people with hearing loss in group situations
· Individual access needs, everyone is different and have different communication needs – how to meet them
· How to create individual assessments around a person’s access needs
· Equipment and information technology
· Useful guidelines for running activities for people with hearing loss
· Ongoing monitoring

Fee: £500 for the face-to-face course and £200 for the seminar. All attendees will receive a certificate.

Course 12 - Assistive equipment

This 1-hour training, via online seminar, is suitable for anyone involved in supporting residents with access to assistive equipment such as TV listeners, amplified phones etc. This training is presented by our technology expert and covers:

· Why should assistive equipment be used in a care environment?
· Dignity, stigma and denial
· What equipment exists and where to get it

Fee: £200 for the seminar. Delegates will receive a certificate on completion of the seminar.

Course 13 - Assistive technology

This 1-hour training, via online seminar, is suitable for anyone involved in supporting residents with access to assistive technology to support communication and social activities such as Bluetooth connectivity, apps on smart phones etc. This training is presented by our technology expert and covers:

· Why should assistive technology be used in a care environment?
· Dignity, stigma and denial
· What technology exists and where to get it

Fee: £200 for the seminar. Delegates will receive a certificate on completion of the seminar.

Course 14 - Dementia and hearing loss

The 3-hour face-to-face training is for all care staff working with people living with dementia and hearing loss. This training is presented by our dementia expert and covers:

· The most common types of dementia
· The most common symptoms of dementia
· The overlap between dementia and hearing loss
· Overlapping symptoms of dementia and hearing loss
· Good communication for people living with dementia and hearing loss
· Person centred and relationship focused approaches
· Addressing the biological, psychological and social impact of dementia

Fee: £500 - 15 staff per session @ £33 per person (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate and a pdf handbook

Course 15 - Auditing care and care environment for deaf awareness

The 3-hour face-to-face training is for a single care home or care service who wishes to ensure that the care environment is as accessible for people with hearing loss as possible. The tool is designed to enable action plans to be created and progress tracked. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· Why audit your care environment?
· What areas need to be audited and how?
· How to use the audit tool
· How to create action plans and follow through
· Creating evidence of progress
· Sharing evidence of progress with CQC and customers

Fee: £500 - 15 staff per session @ £33 per person (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate and a pdf of the audit tool.

Course 16- Train the trainer - how to deliver our CPD accredited face-to-face deaf awareness training

The 1-day face-to-face training is for learning and development teams who wish to deliver the face-to-face version of Engage’s CPD accredited training course. Ideal for larger groups of homes. It will support the cost-effective development of an accessible care environment. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· What is contained within the training script
· Setting up the room
· Common issues in delivering communication, experience and hearing aid sections
· Q&A around hearing loss

Fee: £1500 - 15 staff per session @ £100 per person (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate and a pdf handbook.

Course 17 - Train the trainer - how to deliver our CPD accredited face-to-face Hearing Loss Champion training

The 1-day face-to-face training is for learning and development teams who wish to deliver the face-to-face version of Engage’s CPD accredited Hearing Loss Champion training. Ideal for groups that wish to establish large Champion teams with expert in-house skills. This training delivered by our expert team covers:

· What is contained within the training script
· Setting up the room
· Common issues in delivering environmental audits, hearing aid maintenance, reflective practice and advocacy sections
· Q&A around hearing loss

Fee: £1500 - 15 staff per session @ £100 per person (for session with full attendance). All delegates will receive a certificate and a pdf handbook.

Consultancy

For managers and service leaders who want to seek advice and support on particular issues in relation to deaf awareness within their organisation. Advice is delivered by our hearing loss expert.

For individual managers and leaders who want one-to-one support to explore and address challenges in their work environment on implementing best practice for hearing loss aware services.

Audits of Care and care environment

Engage | brand Teal and Purple small lozenge
For individual registered managers wanting to assess where their home is in regard to access for people with hearing loss. This involves a one-day visit by our two experts who will use our audit tool to assess the home. A report will be created afterwards along with a suggested action plan and advice. This is also useful evidence for CQC to demonstrate how you are continuing to improve the experience of service users living with hearing loss.
Fee: £900 for one day’s audit. The home will receive a full report and suggested action plan within 1 week.
